Impact of warming on the direct uptake of amino acids and peptides by competing grass species

Our understanding of how warming will impact on soil nitrogen (N) cycling and the consequences for the uptake of different chemical forms of N, both organic and inorganic, is limited. Moreover, not much is known about how warming will impact on competitive interactions between co-existing plant species, and how this relates to the availability and uptake of different forms of N. The overall aim of this study is to determine how warming will impact on the relative availability of organic and inorganic N forms in soil and the consequences of this for plant competitive interactions. The project is supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation and Life Sciences Mass Spectrometry Facility (NERC).
